Dr Sne Wadhwani — why we, as GPs, need this

What 14.5 hours covers — and what it doesn't.

The annual RACGP requirement is 50 hours across three categories. Part 1 gives you 14.5 of them — all in EA and RP, which are the most accessible hours to start with. The RP component in particular is harder to find in a single program. If you want to add 17.5 MO hours on top, Part 2 is there when you're ready.

What Part 1 gives you

For yourself first. And — when you're ready — for your patients.

A practice that fits your day
5–10 minutes. Guided audio. Between patients, after clinic, wherever. Not another thing that takes over your schedule — skills that slot into the gaps you already have.
Reduce exhaustion. Protect your empathy.
Practical tools grounded in neuroscience. Build resilience, sharpen focus, and ease the emotional carryover that follows you home at the end of a long day.
14.5 CPD hours — clear and claimable
Built-in reflection prompts support your documentation. Certificate ready for RACGP CPD Home on completion. No ambiguity, no chasing paperwork.
Why this matters now

The data on Australian general practice.

69%
of Australian GPs experienced burnout in 2024 — RACGP Health of the Nation report
38%
reported daily or weekly drops in empathy toward patients — a recognised early marker of burnout progression
88%
of participants in an 8-week MBSR RCT with healthcare professionals showed improved stress scores

RACGP Health of the Nation 2024 · Healthed GP Survey 2023 (n=1,600+) · Shapiro et al. (2005) Int. Journal of Stress Management 12(2)

"Physicians who practise mindfulness show greater empathy, improved clinical communication, and significantly reduced burnout — with effects that persist at 15-month follow-up."

Krasner et al. (2009) — JAMA · Mindful Communication: A Path to Physician Burnout Reduction

The program — Part 1

Five modules. One sustainable practice.

Each module follows the same structure: understand the evidence, learn the technique, build the daily habit. Just 5–10 minutes a day — video and audio. Your guided audio library is yours from day one.

Module 1 Diaphragmatic Breathing
The foundation. Diaphragmatic breathing activates the vagal brake — lowering heart rate, reducing cortisol, shifting the nervous system away from sympathetic overdrive. Immediate to learn, immediate in effect. A core reset for high-load clinical days.
✦ Each module includes a brief, optional patient script — there if you want it, easy to use if you do. No obligation.
Module 2 The Box Breath
Structured, teachable, fast-acting. Used across medicine, elite sport, and the military for good reason — it works under pressure. Ideal for pre-consult grounding or resetting after a difficult patient encounter.
Module 3 The 4-7-8 Breath
Particularly effective for anxiety, sleep disruption, and emotional regulation — common sequelae of sustained clinical workload. Practical for after-hours recovery and end-of-day decompression.
Module 4 Body Awareness
Developing interoceptive awareness — noticing what's happening in your own body before it becomes a problem. Recognising tension, fatigue, and stress signals early, and responding with intention rather than reaction.
Module 5 Building Empathy and Compassion
Heart-based practice. Compassion for patients begins with compassion for the clinician. Research consistently shows mindfulness training improves physician empathy — this module puts that into daily practice. Live 30-minute peer webinar included.
